The Trace is an independent, nonprofit news organization dedicated to expanding coverage of guns in the United States. They believe that our country’s epidemic rates of firearm-related violence are coupled with a second problem: a shortage of information about the issue at large.
Ohioans for Safe Communities
Ohioans for Safe Communities began as the Safe Guns Coalition in January, 2015 when a group of 30 gun violence prevention activists met in Columbus, Ohio. This new organization agreed to focus efforts on achieving specific legislative goals to reduce gun violence. They seek to build a coalition of persons and organizations focused on specific legislation. Their focus is on
- Preventing unintended shootings and suicides among children and youth due to access to unsecured firearms;
- Preventing domestic violence offenders from maintaining or gaining access to firearms;
- Engaging as needed in other gun violence prevention campaigns
God Before Guns
God Before Guns is a Cleveland-based multi-faith coalition of individuals and faith communities working to reduce gun injuries and deaths. God Before Guns works to reduce gun violence through community engagement, education, and advocacy, convening and collaborating with diverse faith communities and other community partners.
Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence
Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence is a statewide non-profit organization, working to prevent gun violence through education, advocacy and public awareness including Books Not Bullets, Weapons Free Zones, and Picture Peace programs.
Moms Demand Action
Much like Mothers Against Drunk Driving was created to reduce drunk driving, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America was created to demand action from legislators, state and federal; companies; and educational institutions to establish common-sense gun reforms. There is a Cleveland-based chapter.
The mission of the Brady organization is to create a safer America by cutting gun deaths in half by 2025. It features three strategies: (1) to see that background checks are applied to all gun sales; (2) to “Stop ‘Bad Apple’ Gun Dealers” – the 5 percent of gun dealers that supply 90 percent of all crime guns; and (3) to lead a new national conversation and change social norms around the real dangers of guns in the home, to prevent the homicides, suicides, and unintentional shootings that happen every day as a result.
Every Town For Gun Safety
